Ross MP Paul Keetch has visited Goodrich Primary School to support the school’s ongoing campaign to reduce the speed limit from 60 to 20mph outside the school – before it’s too late and there is an accident.
Mr Keetch said he witnessed cars racing through the village past the school, yet the drivers were perfectly within their right to do so legally up to 60 mph and that had to be addressed before a tragic accident happened.
He said: “It is time that Herefordshire Council listened to the concerns of teachers and parents in Goodrich.
“They must immediately contact the local authority urging them to drastically reduce the speed limit to 20mph before a serious accident occurs.
“It is essential that with a reduced speed limit we introduce traffic calming measures in order to provide a safe and secure environment for the school children.
“I am fully supportive of the Safe Routes to Schools Initiative where most other schools in Herefordshire have a maximum 20mph in order to control the problem of speeding outside schools,
“But at Goodrich the pleas of parents and teachers seem to have been ignored.
“I shall be writing to the Herefordshire Council urging them to act immediately and to find a solution to this problem before it is too late,” Mr Keetch told the Journal.
